Have you gone to your electric panel to notice scribble or not being able to identify what circuits operate your appliances and outlets? Labelling your electrical panel will give you peace of mind if an emergency occurs. Next time you need to flip a switch, you will know which circuit to turn off. You will also save time if an Electrician comes by to do work, which can save you money and time. Follow these tips to make it easier:
1. Ask someone to help!
The first tip is to ask a friend or family member to help. While you switch off all circuits in your home, have your friend or family member tell you which lights or appliances come on and off as you switch them off. You can then identify them accurately.
2. Have the proper tools!
The second tip is to utilize an outlet checker. By plugging in the outlet checker, you will be able to identify if it is operational. It will make it much easier to determine which outlets are linked to which circuits.
3. Decide on your chart!
Choose a way to label the electrical panel that works for you. The two most popular styles in marking your electrical panel are by writing or numbering. If you get creative, you can also colour code. You can print off your Circuit Identification chart on a sticker paper or purchase some already made.
