Did you know that Electrical Safety Codes are in place to make sure that you select the right electrical outlet for every room in your home? These rules will keep you and your family safe from fire and electrical shocks.
Here are three critical electrical outlets:
The Electrical Safety Authority recommends using these outlets throughout your home. They prevent your little ones from inserting their fingers or other small objects into the outlet and preventing burns or electrical shocks. The only time you can get away from using these outlets is if it is out of reach or two metres above the floor.
Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI)
These types of outlets are different from typical receptacles. They are needed throughout your home to provide protection and prevent fires. They are built to quickly stop the flow of electricity by tripping the circuit if they detect an arc fault in the circuit. A qualified electrician will be able to determine where they should be placed in your home.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)
These outlets must be installed in the bathroom, laundry rooms, garages and other outside locations. They contain a sensor that monitors the current flow for any changes, and if it senses a change, it will shut off automatically and prevent accidental electrocution.
Electrical fires are the cause of over 350 deaths and over 1,400 injuries each year. If your home is more than 20 years old, you should consider updating your outlets to GFCI outlets. Doucet Power & Controls are here to help install the right outlet at the right place.
